School Trips with Overnight Stays

A school camp is a school trip with overnight stays and is part of the primary school curriculum. The instruction largely takes place outdoors, either in the mountains or by the sea, depending on the location of the camp.

Description

A school camp or a school trip with at least three overnight stays is part of mandatory primary education.

A school trip with overnight stays usually takes place in a new environment, often in nature. The activities are both physical and social, providing students with a learning experience in a completely different setting than their usual school environment.

The school selects the camp and organizes the school trip. However, planning is done in collaboration with students and parents. There are many different needs within a group of students, and it is important that the school provides parents with information about transportation, activities, meals, and the number of accompanying adults. Parents, in turn, will inform the school about their child’s specific needs and preferences.

Target group

Students in primary school.

Criteria/conditions

All students must have the opportunity to participate in school camps and trips. This also applies to students with disabilities.

Students cannot be excluded from school trips due to poor behavior or conduct.

Charges/Cost of the service

School camps are free for students.

For school trips outside of camp settings, there may be costs for meals. These trips do not have to be funded by the school. A school trip can, for example, be financed through fundraising activities, small jobs, or lottery sales.

A parent or a group of parents may donate money toward such a school trip, but the donation must be given anonymously and benefit the entire student group.
