School Rules and Rules for Expulsion

Each school establishes its own rules. These rules help organize school democracy and define acceptable behavior. The school determines what happens when rules are broken. However, the Education Act also provides certain guidelines regarding expulsion.

Students who violate school rules may face expulsion for a certain period. However, the school must first consider whether less severe consequences are sufficient, and the student must be given an opportunity to explain their side of the story.

For students in grades 1 to 7, expulsion may apply to individual lessons or the remainder of the school day. Parents must be notified before a full-day expulsion.

For students in grades 8 to 10, expulsion may last up to three days.

If a student behaves in a way that affects the safety and learning environment of others, the municipality may decide to transfer the student to another school.

Regardless of whether the expulsion lasts for a few hours or several days, the student must have the opportunity to share their perspective before a decision is made.

Expulsions lasting one day or more are considered individual decisions, and they can be appealed.

The appeal must be in writing and justified. It should be submitted to the school principal. The deadline for submitting an appeal is three weeks after receiving notice of the decision. The appeal should specify what you wish to change and provide reasons for the request.

The appeal authority is the County Governor. Before forwarding the appeal, the principal must reconsider whether the decision should be changed.
