Nursing Home – Long-Term Stay

A nursing home provides round-the-clock care for individuals who require medical and nursing follow-up and assistance throughout the day and night.

Description

A long-term stay at a nursing home is for individuals who need continuous care and assistance. You must apply to the municipality for a place in a nursing home. Before a decision can be made, we will assess your needs and preferences. Normally, a home visit will be conducted.

If you meet the criteria for a long-term stay, you have the right to receive a written decision, even if there are no available spots at the moment.

If you are allocated a nursing home placement, your care needs will be outlined in the decision.

Criteria/conditions

The municipality must have its own regulations specifying the criteria for the allocation of nursing home places.

Charges/Cost of the service

The municipality may charge a fee for the stay. The fee is determined by national regulations.

Guidelines – applying for, or receiving the service

You can contact the municipality for assistance in applying for a long-term stay at a nursing home, or you can ask someone to assist you if needed. If someone else is applying on your behalf, they must have a power of attorney.

Administrative procedure

Before a decision can be made, we will conduct a detailed assessment of your needs and preferences. A home visit will normally be conducted. If you are allocated a nursing home placement, your care needs will be specified in the decision.

You will be informed when the municipality processes your application and will have the opportunity to provide input. The municipality will gather all necessary information to make a decision, and you have the right to access the case documents. The decision will include the municipality’s reasoning, how the decision was reached, and who was involved in the process. The decision will be sent to you in writing.

If there are no available spots, even though you meet the criteria for a nursing home placement, you will receive a written decision confirming that you qualify, and you will be placed on a waiting list.

Time taken to consider the application

The municipality must process the case as soon as possible. If a decision cannot be made within one month, you will receive written notice explaining the delay and an estimate of when the decision is expected.

Possibilities to appeal; procedure

If you are dissatisfied with the decision, you can appeal to the municipality within three weeks of receiving it. Explain what you are dissatisfied with and why you believe the decision should be changed. If you need guidance, you can contact the municipality. If the municipality upholds its decision, the case can be forwarded to the County Governor.

You can also file a complaint regarding the execution of the service. Complaints should be sent to the municipality or directly to the service provider.
