Emergency Alarm

An emergency alarm is a small device worn on the body, connected to a monitoring center with home nursing services. You can apply to the municipality for an emergency alarm.

Description

If you live alone and need the ability to call for help in emergency situations, you can apply for an emergency alarm. The alarm is connected to a monitoring center, which relays contact to home nursing services. The monitoring center or municipal personnel will respond 24/7 if the alarm is activated.

Target group

Elderly individuals, people with disabilities, and others who may feel unsafe living alone.

Acts

The emergency alarm is not a mandatory service but may be provided if you have a need that qualifies for assistance under the Health and Care Services Act. See helse- og omsorgstjenesteloven § 3-2.

Guidelines – applying for, or receiving the service

You can contact the municipality for assistance in applying for an emergency alarm, or you can ask someone to help you if needed. If another person applies on your behalf, they must have authorization.

Administrative procedure

You will be notified when the municipality processes your application and will have the opportunity to provide input. The municipality must gather all necessary information to make a decision, and you have the right to access the case documents. The decision will include the municipality’s reasoning, how the decision was reached, and who was involved in the process. The decision will be sent to you in writing.

Time taken to consider the application

The municipality must process your application as soon as possible. If a decision cannot be made within one month, you will receive a written explanation of the delay and an estimated date for a decision.

Possibilities to appeal; procedure

If you are dissatisfied with the decision, you can appeal to the municipality within three weeks from the date you received it. Explain what you are dissatisfied with and why you believe the decision should be changed. If you need guidance, you can contact the municipality. If the municipality upholds its decision, the case will be forwarded to the County Governor, who will determine whether the appeal is upheld.
